Desert Song Festival

There is something truly magnificent listening to the ladies from the remote communities singing in ancient language old hymns, in multi layered harmonies that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on their ends. Such a unique sound that is very new to my ears. Just beautiful…..

I feel lucky to be witness to the Desert Song Festival in Alice Springs, photographing the beautiful and moving opening night at the Old Gaol, Pioneer Women’s Hall of Fame, Singing up songs of freedom and honouring the life and work of Nelson Mandela… “better to light a candle than to curse the darkness” and the “Desert Voice” concert at Araluen, featuring the Asante Sana Choir and choirs from Alice Springs, Areyonga, Titjikala, Docker River, Mutitjulu and Hermannsburg!
