Photojournalism – Reportage

← Back to the Portfolio

I have a background of photojournalism, working for newspapers.

I found it hard to photograph bad news stories.. car accidents, violence, chasing people outside court making their lives harder than they already are. I guess news photography wasn’t aligned with my conscience. It’s not that terrible things don’t happen in community, they do, but we know that reinforcing these ‘bad’ stories produces fear driven societies which is not healthy for our souls or the universe as a whole. We want people to be empowered! to get up & know they are not too small to make a difference. I remember a quote Which I think is from the Dali Lama “If you think you are too small to make a difference try sleeping with a mosquito!”

There is a strong desire in me to make the most of this life I’ve been given. Documenting positive aspects of community is to inspire & give hope, to remember love & compassion is all we really have. Whatever form it takes, for me one of the ways I express it, is through Photography but it can be in anything we do. Get out there and make the most of what you’ve got!!!
